Trey Porter was born and raised in East Tennessee. Mr. Porter attended Sevierville public schools, in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, where his mother was an elementary school teacher. Growing up, he sold Christmas trees, cut grass, and worked various jobs in the hotel business.
Mr. Porter attended Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, TN, where he majored in Political Science, and double-minored in Communications and Global Studies. While at MTSU, Mr. Porter wrote for the school newspaper, held various on-campus jobs, and worked in the restaurant business. He was also a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity.
After graduating from MTSU (‘06 B.S. Political Science), Mr. Porter moved to the Czech Republic. Living in Prague, he taught English to business executives in the financial sector.
Like a great number of Tennesseans before him, he eventually found his way to Texas.
In 2008, Mr. Porter began his legal studies at St. Mary’s University School of Law, where he was active in the Student Bar Association, the San Antonio Young Lawyers Association, and the Mock Trial team. While in law school, Mr. Porter won multiple advocacy competitions, interned at the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office in the Family Violence section, and clerked for the criminal defense firm LaHood & Del Cueto, PLLC.
He has been voted by his peers as one of San Antonio’s Best Lawyers every year since 2015, with specific recognition in the fields of Criminal Defense and DWI Defense. Mr. Porter is also recognized by the National Trial Lawyers Association as a Top 40 Under 40 Criminal Defense Lawyer, and holds a 10.0 Superb rating from AVVO, where attorneys are rated based on skillful litigation, client satisfaction, peer endorsements, and positive results.
Outside of the courtroom, Mr. Porter has served as a board member for the Hemisfair Coalition and Tobin Hill Community Association, and as a committee Chairperson for the San Antonio Criminal Defense Lawyers Association. Mr. Porter also supports Texas Public Radio, San Antonio Riverwalk Association, Great Smoky Mountains Association, San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo Educational Foundation, Rivard Report, and Fiesta Wishes. Additionally, the Trey Porter Law Scholarship was established in 2019 to help provide financial support to college students in pursuit of their passions.
“I don’t represent moonshiners like my great-grandfather once did, but I am very proud to carry on the family tradition of standing up for the citizen accused.” – Trey Porter

I hired Mr. Trey Porter after getting a D.U.I. Was very much scared because I am a nurse and thought I would lose my livelihood. Mr Porter was reassuring and kind. He was also very confident.

Mr Porter was recommended to me by a coworker. He helped her out of a DWI 3 years ago, and he did the same for me.

Trey is one of the best in the business. I was in complete shock of the outcome for the case, the best scenario was achieved in a not so great situation. Would absolutely recommend to everyone.
